Manchester United are looking at a shock move for Fernando Llorente on a free transfer after struggling to land targets.

The Spaniard, 34, left Tottenham Hotspurs at the end of last season, with his contract expiring on July 1.

Gianluca di Marzio has revealed United are looking at a move for the 6ft 4in centre-forward.

The former Athletic Bilbao, Juventus, Sevilla and Swansea man has a vast array of experience and would be considered a back-up option if Romelu Lukaku is sold.

Lukaku has gone AWOL with the 27-year-old choosing to train at Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht while he forces through a move to either Juventus or Inter Milan.

While the English window shuts on August 8, many of their rival European countries can continue trading players until September 2.

United have also shown interest in his former Spurs team-mate Christian Eriksen, 27.

Fiorentina and Napoli have both shown an interest in Llorente, who scored six goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season.
