Dissatisfied Nigerian women trooped out en masse on Saturday to protest the incessant harassment by male traders in Yaba which has, unfortunately, gone out of hands in recent times.

Some concerned citizens decided to do something about it and embarked on the #MarketMarchYaba protest.

The women took to the streets of the busy market to express their disgust and anger over the incessant harassments by aggressive male traders whenever they are on a shopping spree in the popular market.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “No be by force to buy” “Not your colour” “We are not prostitutes” “Don’t tell me how to dress” etc.

Meanwhile, it is no more news that male traders in Yaba harass and insult ladies that come to the market.

Many of them stand by the side of the road and under the pretence of coaxing women to buy goods from them, pull hard at their hands, touch sensitive parts of the body, grab their waist and wrists, and even calls them prostitutes and other ridiculous names for not patronizing them.

A lot of people who visit the market are familiar with the aggressive male trader’s modus operandi.

The women who protested shared photos and stories showing what happened in the market and proved that the protest was indeed necessary.

However, some angry men in the market resulted to name calling and almost attacked the bold women.

The traders told them they had a right to their bodies and if they didn’t want to be touched then they should stay in their homes.
