Marlians don’t do drugs, unless it’s prescribed, Naira Marley reveals

Published

Nigeria hip-pop artiste, Naira Marley, has disclosed that his fans, who proudly called themselves ‘Marlians’, are not drug addicts.

The Soapy singer, who is embroiled in a cyber fraud lawsuit initiated against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], made the revelation on Wednesday via his Twitter account.

Marley, whose real name is Afeez Fashola, in a first tweet said

“Marlians, don’t do drugs.”

Before adding “Unless it’s prescribed” in a second tweet.

When WuzupNigeria tried to juxtapose his tweets and his lifestyle, we found a huge gap. First, the controversial singer in October, during Wizkid’s Starboyfest at The O2 London, had mesmerised fans with his dancing. However, his moves portrayed the rolling and smoking of marijuana/weed, making the crowd go wide.

In July, the singer shared photos of himself in Dublin, Ireland wrapping and smoking jumbo-sized marijuana on his Instagram weeks after he got arrested by the EFCC.

Also, in an earlier tweet on Wednesday, Naira Marley confessed his love for very potent weed, known as loud.

He tweeted,

“I smoke loud. I don’t do drugs,” he said.

WuzupNigeria reports that Loud is slang for potent weed. The term ‘loud’ comes from the fact that the drug marijuana has a strong smell, and since stronger marijuana strains tend to smell stronger than their counterpart, the term ‘loud’ was created for those type of strains.

WuzupNigeria further reports that marijuana/weed/loud/Indian hemp/skunk is seen by the Nigerian government as hard drugs and their use, unless clinical, is prohibited.
