Mason, 35, on trial for inserting fingers into his four-year-old daughter’s v@gina

Published

A 35-year-old mason, Onyebuchi Ezema, has been dragged before High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Lugbe, Abuja for allegedly inserting his fingers into his four years old daughter’s vagina.

WuzupNigeria gathered that Ezema penetrated the toddler’s vagina with his fingers between April 15 and May 16, 2020.

The Federal Government through the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons [NAPTIP] alleged that Ezema’s act amounted to an offence punishable under section 1(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.

The case with only one count was signed by a Senior Legal Officer NAPTIP, Ja’afaru Ayitogo, and filed in court on May 8, 2020.

The defendant was slated to be arraigned before Justice Asmau Yusuf on Tuesday.

The proceedings could, however, not proceed because of non-availability of an Igbo interpreter to interpret the proceedings from English to Igbo and vice-versa for the court and the defendant, who said he could understand and speak only Igbo language.

The judge directed the court registrar to provide a neutral interpreter for the proceedings which were adjourned till June 16.

The sole count in the case marked, CR/015/2020, read,

“That you, Onyebuchi Ezema, male, 35 years old, of Zone 9, Behind Calvary, Lugbe, Aiport Road, Abuja between April 15 and 16, 2020 at your resident, Zone 9, Behind Calvary, Lugbe, Airport Road, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, intentionally penetrated the vagina of one [name withheld], four years old, with your fingers and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.”
