The astonishing story of a 39-year-old woman, Mariam Nabatanzi, who has given birth 15 times to 42 children 38 of whom have survived is a must watch clip.
In an interview with Al Jazeera’s Seena Khalil, Mariam said she had a set of twins, four times, triplets five times, quadruplets five times and the last born.
Dubbed as “Uganda’s most fertile woman” Mariam was sold into marriage at the age of 12 and began having children at age 13.
She grew up in an abusive home and also faced physical abuse in her marriage.
Mariam’s husband left her and their children and now works multiple jobs as a tailor, herbalist, hairdresser and more to provide for her children.
She said her dreams is to see all her children attend school adding that they can lack anything but not school.
Doctors say Mariam’s pregnancies are a result of hyperovulation.
She revealed that she attempted to use family planning methods but after using it she was admitted to a hospital for six months because she was bleeding.
She said the doctor said her hormones were not compatible with family planning.
But despite the challenges she has endured, the proud mother sees her family as a blessing.
