Dino Melaye advises plantain hawkers to stay indoor, gives cash as palliative (video)

A video has surfaced online showing Senator Dino Melaye interacting with five women who hawk plantain for survival beside a major road in Abuja amidst the covid-19 lockdown.

This is coming hours after President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states for a week and introduced curfew starting from May 4 to curb the spread of the deadly disease.

Dino Melaye is a Nigerian politician, a Senator and was a member of the 8th Nigerian National Assembly, representing Kogi West Senatorial district. Dino is a member of the People’s Democratic Party.

Inside the 2-minute video, Senator Dino Melaye can be seen advising the five women to stay at home and obey government directives in curbing the spread of the deadly disease, Coronavirus.

You can unknowingly transmit the deadly disease to another person or be infected by selling these plantains, Melaye added.

Responding to Melaye’s advise one of the women who is a mother of six children said hunger forced them out and they have no choice than to sell plantains to survive.

The yet-to-be-identified woman said if she decides to stay at home irrespective of the hunger but the cries of her children for food would not make her stay indoor.

Melaye said he understands the explanation of the woman and the need for survival is premium. He gave the woman and her colleagues undisclosed amount of money and appealed that they should stay indoor.
