Mental lockdown worst than the physical – Adeboye warns

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised the public to beware of what he described as ‘mental lockdown.’

He said mental lockdown is worse than physical lockdown, noting that it is a form of complacency which breeds stagnation.

The 78-year-old cleric made this known on Sunday in a sermon entitled, ‘The problem of mental lockdown.’

In the message broadcast via the church’s DOVE TV, the cleric said:

“There is something worse than physical lockdown. You’ll find out that one of the biggest punishments you can give to a criminal is to lock him down in prison. But something worse than physical lockdown is mental lockdown. And of course, the worst of them all is spiritual lockdown.”

Adeboye, who cited the story of Adam in Genesis 2:7-15, saying he was mentally deficient after his sin of disobedience, stressed that sin erodes one’s mental capability.

He said:

“If someone is mentally lockdown, a lot of terrible things could happen to such a fellow. The fellow will begin to regard the routine as if it is normal. Even though the routine might be far from the best but having being lockdown mentally, the fellow will begin to treat the routine as if that is the best that could ever happen to him.

“The beggar in Acts 3:2 regarded begging as the best, so, it became a routine.

“I want you to beware of your mental enemies. There are certain enemies that could lock you down and we have to deal with that so that after the physical lockdown, you will be able to leap up.

“Enemy number one – to be average is the enemy of being clever. Enemy number two is what is called ‘good enough’. Good enough is the greatest enemy of greatness. Don’t let good enough rob you of greatness. The greatest enemy of all is to think you are already great and you don’t need anything anymore. Great is the greatest enemy of complete.

“From lockdown to leaping up, your journey upward begins when you sense that what you’re calling great is not normal. The moment you become aware that things can become better, your journey upwards begins.

“When you start thinking of the good old days, your journey upwards begins. You shouldn’t be talking of good old days but thinking of good new days.

“When you become aware that God reserves the best till the last, then, your journey upwards begins. Consider the wedding at Galilee where the best wine was reserved till the end of the ceremony. That is God’s pattern; He reserves the best till the last.

“People keep saying we (RCCG) have arrived and I keep telling them that we have not even started. That should be the principle guiding your life. Don’t get mentally lockdown.”
