Mikel Obi reacts to news of Oscar joining Chinese club Shanghai in January

Reports emerged on Friday, December 23, 2016, that Chelsea have agreed to sell Oscar to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG for a fee of around £60m.

According to SkySports report, the midfielder will leave Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens at the start of January.

Oscar’s manager at Shanghai will be former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.

“I’m very happy to sign to SIPG. This is an important day for me to join to my new family in China,” Oscar said.

Oscar scored 38 goals in 203 appearances for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, among those who first reacted to the news on social media was Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, who is a teammate of Oscar in Chelsea.

Mikel, who has also been speculated to be joining French club side Marseille in January, tweeted, “Good luck in China @oscar8 … it’s been a pleasure my friend.”

In less than an hour, Mikel’s tweet garnered over 380 retweets and over 700 likes with many of the commenters asking the midfielder if he would be exiting Standford Bridge in January.
