Mixed reactions as Fashola says bad roads don’t cause accidents
Comments by Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, that accidents on highways are not always due to bad roads, has evoked mixed reactions from Nigerians.
The Minister was quoted in the media to have said at a workshop in Abuja that injuries and avoidable accidents that occur on highways are not always due to bad roads as claimed by road users, adding that road accidents are largely due to speeding and the recklessness of drivers, as no driver speeds on a bad road.
Nigerian Twitter users known to always explode with reactions to trending issues didn’t spare Fashola on Thursday over his comment.
While some are of the opinion that the Minister was right, others advised him to face his duty of fixing Nigerian roads and stop trying to make excuses.
The reactions didn’t come without the usual hilarious comments as some of the respondents also poked fun at Fashola’s comment.
From hilarious comments to harsh comments, this is how Nigerian Twitter users reacted to the Minister’s comment.

Fashola sir, accident has reduced drastically on Lagos Ibadan expressway due to the reconstruction of the highway.
Even the little repair on Oyo Ogbomosho road, reduced the accident there too.

Fashola is correct by let’s say 80%. Most road accidents are caused by reckless driving. Bad roads contribute like 20%. I’m not Fashola’s family but he is right a bit. Just shouldn’t have concluded.

This is who Tunde Raji Fashola is.
Because he is good at talking, he feels that all he says is absolutely correct.
Uncle Fash, you have not only proved to be a LIAR & WICKED today, but MAD also.
So in your wealth of experience, only overspeeding cause accidents @tundefashola— AYANLOLA ABDULJELIL (@owolabitaiwo) March 21, 2019
I repeat Fashola is losing it. Well you can’t be serving under incompetence and be competent. No way. https://t.co/5MtH9qrguT

Given Fashola 3 huge portfolios has really reduced his popularity, with improvements in works, housing.. excluding power -10. The man now makes statements like a *d…k. How the mighty has fallen.

Ha, Mr Fashola. Can anyone lists causes of accidents on roads without mentioning bad road?. Right people in Wrong places. When you place a Lawyer instead of an Engineer, that’s usually the outcome

I think people need to read and understand here before ‘lashing ‘ Fashola.
Why speed when you know the road is bad? https://t.co/JK6HqIGa1q
