Mob lynch suspected gangster, injure three others in Yola
A suspected gangster has died and three others in hospital for high degree burns after they were attacked and set on fire by an angry crowd in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.
Our correspondent gathered the four suspected gangsters, called Shila Boys in the state, were rounded up by a mob near Jimeta Modern Market about 7 pm on Wednesday and set ablaze after they were allegedly caught stealing.
Jungle justice against Shila Boys is becoming common in Yola. On May 10, three suspected Shila Boys were lynched by an angry crowd and 10 days later, a suspected Shila Boy who was burnt half dead and died days later.
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident, said while one of the four suspects died between midnight and 1 am Thursday, the other three were responding to treatment.
He said:
“Of the three still being treated, the police were able to locate the families of two who are from Wurro Jabbe. The one who died was a resident of Nasarawo.”
Both communities are in the Yola metropolitan city.
The PPRO added that the three still receiving treatment would after recovery be made to unearth other members of the group and prosecuted.
Shila Boys routinely terrorise Yola, mostly using Keke NAPEP to carry intracity commuters and robbing them of their valuables in a fashion resembling One Chance in other Nigerian cities.
