A 30-year-old man on Tuesday appeared before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife for allegedly abducting and raping a 13-year-old girl.
The man identified as Gboye Adebowale, a commercial motorcyclist, allegedly lured the victim from her parents’ place of residence to where he eventually had carnal knowledge of her.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Abdullahi, said the defendant committed the offences on July 24, 2020, at Ogbon-Agbara Street, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said the offences contravened sections 218 and 225 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two counts of rape and abduction.
His counsel, E. F. Adeojo, urged the court to admit Adebowale to bail and stated the readiness of the defendant to provide reliable sureties.
The presiding magistrate, A. A. Ayeni, remanded the defendant in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ile-Ife.
He adjourned the matter till August 13, 2020, for the consideration of the bail application
