MURDER! Police in Enugu arrest fleeing murder suspects

One Chigozie Ugwu has been arrested by the police in Enugu over a case of alleged murder.

The police claimed that Ugwu stabbed and killed a 35-year-old man, identified as Nwoye Arua, at Amegu Ejona Orba, in the Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, on March 11, 2018.

According to the police, Ugwu escaped after committing the crime, while his victim, Arua, was rushed to Nwosai Foundation Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

However, Ugwu was eventually arrested by operatives of the Udenu Division of the Enugu State Police Command.

The spokesman for the police command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the arrest, said Ugwu killed Arua for a yet-to-be-determined reason, adding that the suspect was still being grilled.

Amaraizu said,

“On March 11, 2018, at about 10:30pm, one Chigozie Ugwu allegedly stabbed the victim, Nwoye Arua, 35 years, with a knife over a yet-to-be-established reason and escaped to avoid being arrested.

“The victim was rushed to Nwosai Foundation Hospital for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor. The suspect was later arrested by operatives of the Udenu Division of the Enugu State Police Command.

“The suspect is helping the operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, Enugu, in their investigations.”

In a related development, an alleged armed robbery kingpin, Mathew Ugwu, alias ‘Fire’, is currently in the police net in Enugu.

The suspect, who was apprehended on March 8, 2018, is said to be involved in several violent crimes in the Udenu area of Enugu in recent times.

Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said Ugwu specialised in snatching tricycles, phones and other valuables from his victims at gunpoint.

The state police spokesman added that a locally-made double-barrelled pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the suspect when he was arrested.
