The elder brother of a 14-year-old SS2 student has narrated her ordeal since she was raped by a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA], simply identified as ‘Gangster’, in Otukpo area of Benue State.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the rape incident occurred days after the victim had a major surgery and was recuperating. The culprit was said to have fled the area while his victim landed in a hospital.

The brother, Ameh Augustine, said though his sister is getting better, “the area she was operated before the incident is paining her a lot now. If she eats at times, she vomits. She also cries a lot as a result of pains.”

He hinted that the victim may be experiencing some psychological trauma as she withdraws anytime she hears a male voice.

He said,

For now, she is psychologically traumatised and still in shock. Now, if you call her name, she will behave as if she wants to convulse. We have to calm her down on many occasions. But I have faith that, with prayer to God, my sister will recover soon, whether the rapist is found or not. For me, I have handed him over to God but our prayer is that my sister will get better and get out of this trauma. Still, I pray that the rapist is found for him to face the consequences of what he has done,”

Adding,

You know I told you earlier that she is still in shock and very scared of men. Even I, her brother and other brothers, when she hears our voices, she would behave as if she wants to convulse, so I have to talk to her to calm her down. Like yesterday (Monday), she was hungry and I told my mom to let me cook for her. I later went to make noodles and took it to her. As soon as she saw me, she was moving backwards like she was scared. So, I had to start calming her down.

Augustine also revealed his sister was discharged from the hospital where she was admitted following the incident for security reasons.

He said,

“It was for security reasons because some strange faces started coming to the hospital. Though there was an instruction that no one should be allowed to see her, but we discovered the frequent coming of the strange faces to the hospital. When they were turned back, we saw them hanging around the hospital. The other day, some people came to demand for her X-ray. We don’t know these people or where they came from. It was when I came to the hospital that the people ran away.

“I called the investigating police officer and reported our observation but he did not say anything tangible. He only advised us to be careful.”

Augustine also revealed that though his sister is in SSS 2, she had been registered for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations [WASSCE] because of her brilliance.
