N100,000 cash prize for OAU Best Graduating student, Oluwafemi Lawal, generates criticism

While the academic achievements of Mr. Lawal Oluwafemi have led to a #CongratulationsSir hashtag on Twitter, his prize of N100,000 has been criticised by his social media followers who see it as ‘paltry.’

Critics of the amount of money weighed the prize against the N30m award for the winner of the Big Brother Naija Season Four.

Oluwafemi, who graduated with B.Sc Accounting from OAU, had taken to his Twitter handle @phlawalmoses to announce his award.

He had tweeted,

“Two days ago, I graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University as the Best Graduating Student for the 2017/2018 session with a historic 4.98 CGPA out of a possible 5.0.”

He added that, for four consecutive times, he was also the Best Overall in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria’s professional exams.

In all, he had won 14 awards in ICAN, with another 22 academic awards, all within the space of four years.

“[It] can only be God!,” he concluded.
