Recently, debate on cybercrime heightened among Nigerians on social media, with many arguing that the present economic situation of the nation forced so many young people into the act, while many have condemned such notion on the ground that crime should not be justified for any reason.
Naira Marley had also justified ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ in a viral video he shared on social media which led to his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In her contribution to the ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ debate, the actress appealed to Nigerians to desist from justifying cybercrime.
The actress took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to share a video where she opined that the fact that there is no money in circulation shouldn’t be a justification for anyone to go into fraudulent acts to make money.
She said,
“Sometimes I wonder how our people think. One thing I want us to know is that two wrongs don’t make a right. Just because there is no money in the country, there is no work does not justify corruption, does not justify evil.
“Because our politicians are doing it does not make it right for us to do it. It is really sad when we try to paint bad as good. I don’t want to mention names and I am not going to tag anybody.
“We should understand the implications, the depth of what we do.”
Naira Marley was arraigned in court on Monday over charges bothering on fraud and cyber-crime. He was slammed with an 11-count charge by the EFCC and was eventually remanded in Prison till May 30th when his bail application hearing will hold.
