The Student Union President of the Niger Delta University has been hospitalised after he was allegedly beaten by thugs on Thursday.

According to the viral reports shared on Facebook, Raphael Biweribo Samuel is receiving treatment at Tantua hospital, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.

According to multiple online reports, trouble started when students protested against the recent school fees increase by NDU’management.

The students allegedly demanded that the school fees be reduced by the government. However, it was gathered that their protest was allegedly hijacked by suspected thugs and the SUG president was severely beaten.

In another Facebook post, by a biochemistry student of the university, simply identified as Emmanuel Chisom Felix, he wrote,

“Bayelsa Government sent police officers to beat our SUG president, he was unharmed and yet still beaten, as I write he’s struggling with his life now in a hospital… Please PRAY for NDU.”
