A Nigerian family from Ogun State has placed a newspaper advert to publicly disown one of their female members who they claimed approached the Federal Marriage Registry to be joined with her gay partner.

A screenshot of the newspaper advert is presently making the round on social media. Although the date the newspaper was published could not be ascertained

The Shoremi family said it is dissociating itself from the Shalom Shoremi’s action and also claimed it has severed ties with her.

The advert read:

“The attention of the Shoremi family from Ogun State has been to an application for a special marriage license sought by Shalom T. Shoremi.

“She had requested for a special marriage license from the Federal Marriage Registry on 22nd of March 2018 to allow her consummate her same-sex marriage, which was rejected as it was in variance with the marriage Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The family is dissociating itself from this move and has severed ties with her,” the advert read.”

The family also announced that it has disowned Shalom “on the grounds that what she planned is against the laws in Nigeria.”

“She will also not be entitled to anything from the family,” it added

Meanwhile, some social media users have claimed the newspaper advert is a ploy by the lady to serve as evidence for her while seeking Asylum in the United States or Canada by claiming she is being ill-treated and discriminated against and her life is not safe in Nigeria due to her sexuality.

Well, their claims seem to be very accurate. When WuzupNigeria searched for Shalom Shoremi on Facebook, only one account popped up in the result.

The Shalom Shoremi we found, though chubbier, looks like the lady in the newspaper advert and her profile says she now lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
