Nigerian wanted in Germany, arrested in Hungary for assaulting woman

Published

A court in Hungary has ordered the arrest of a Nigerian man who is suspected of assaulting a woman in a Budapest nightclub last December.

The man who had stayed in Hungary illegally was also being sought by the German authorities for assault, police said on its website on Monday.

The Budapest Police Headquarters said in a statement that on Dec. 7 last year a 31-year-old man is suspected of making a pass at the woman before hitting her in the face when she rejected his advances.

He then fled the scene.

The alleged victim did not report the incident to the police at the time.

In the same downtown club, the woman recognised her assailant last Saturday evening and made a report to police.

The club’s bouncers held the man until the police arrived.

The 5th district police department determined that the suspect, C.C. Awuzieke, was staying in the country illegally.

The 31-year-old Nigerian man did not confess to the alleged assault during police questioning.

Munich’s prosecutor’s office has also issued an arrest warrant for Awuzieke, who is wanted for assault there.
