Nigerians celebrate first medal in Rio
On Saturday, Nigeria won its 24th medal in the Olympics since it first participated in the games in 1952.
Though the bronze medal was the first for the country in the Rio 2016 Olympics, it was the 12th bronze since the country’s first participation in the games. It was also the third time the men’s football team will get a podium finish since the first won gold in Atlanta 1996. Nigeria won Silver at the Beijing 2008 games, so the bronze in Rio completes a clean sweep for the team.
Nigerians and their well-wishers are very happy at the win and they are making their happiness known via the social media.
