Nigerians react to Waje’s plan to quit music over lack of funds
Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, professionally known as Waje, over the weekend announced her plan to quit music over lack of funds to promote her music, and this has evoked reactions from Nigerians.
WuzupNaija reports that the singer in a 12-minute video she uploaded on her Youtube page over the weekend, lamented over the state of the music industry and the reception of fans towards her music. She announced that she would rather put her money in other business than invest in music that isn’t helping her financial needs.
Since Waje announced her plan to quit music, Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the talented singer’s plan to invest her funds into other ventures.
These are some of the reactions:
Nigerians are Nigeria’s problem.
Waje is struggling with her music and she’s just one out of the many creatives who wanna give up; Asa was lucky, she got out. But u see,Nigerians dn’t have that range musically so much that its jaga jaga music we prefer just as our country is.— ToughCookie (@NneStainless) March 25, 2019
You say Waje didn’t work hard as if success comes from hard work. If it did how come you’re not successful?

How many of you knew that Duncan Mighty released 3 albums after 2010’s “Ahamefuna”? PH 1st son’s music was on the brink of collapse until that miraculous moment with Wizkid. Maybe what Waje needs now is a high profile collabo that can resurrect her dying music. #MondayMotivation

That Waje video just made my week. At least I know I’m on track, quitting certain dreams for my number one priority which is my wife & kids wasn’t a bad idea after all.

WAJE: I no get money for publicity
This video shows that Waje is going through a lot but no, some people didn’t notice the pain, they just want to talk.
If you still think she is too lazy to compete after watching this video, you are heartless! pic.twitter.com/pYkjeAt3sO

Waje should do what other musicians do, get signed under a label and focus on producing good music. They do the marketing at their expense and both party share the returns.
Please Waje, there is no excuse for failure.

Waje says she is broke! She lives on Chevron Drive probably her own house… schoolfees around there is insanely crazy but worth it… I can advise we all mind our businesses. Priorities & Drive are totally different so also her BROKE and your BROKE can never be the same BROKE https://t.co/JslD1NxYxn

Same Nigerians who demand “good music” & claim Wizkid & co should perform live music for them are the same ones who unlook the unbelievably talented Waje to the point that she is considering quitting music. Most people just talk. Most times, they don’t even know what they want.

I feel sorry for Nigeria. Creatives like Waje don’t get appreciated and never really get the right kind of support in a place like Nigeria. Nigeria is the problem here, not Waje. Our system sucks. A system that downgrades the very best but promotes the fake and the empty! https://t.co/sliPjuqEIe

This is a cry for help; Waje, a single mother is putting a daughter through university all by herself. She is talented.
Waje is broken maybe even depressed?
Let’s not allow it to be too late (God forbid) Twitter has made it happen for less deserving people. pic.twitter.com/EyYKzwUHw5

It is sad to see Waje lose this much interest in doing music. But she didn’t have to take shots at the fans asking her to drop another album. You should be thanking them! No matter how little, they added to what you made one way or the other. Appreciate them.

If you’re looking from outside, you’ll assume this entertainment business is easy. Waje is right, the sheer amount of capital you have to invest in promotions is not for the fainthearted. You could be the most talented there is but without huge capital investment you’ll struggle
— Imoh (@ImohUmoren) March 25, 2019
Lol, you people should stop pitying Waje. Your broke and her broke are not the same thing.
Also, she’s speaking, like many do, about an investment that is seemingly not yielding as much as the hype surrounding it…that’s also not a new thing.
