Nigerians seek help for housemaid brutalised by soldier’s wife [Video]
Cases of women brutalizing their housemaids using corporal punishment are not new in this part of the world.
Though the trend seems to have reduced following public outcry, which has exposed many engaged in the act and has been made to face the wrath of the law, it is not surprising to hear that the act is still prevalent, especially among those who believe they are above the law.
This is the case of a young girl, identified as Oluma in Ojo area of Lagos, who has been allegedly brutalised by a woman she described as her aunty and the wife of a soldier.
A Facebook user identified as Ayo Yinkus Fatimoh posted a video on social media to bring the plight of the young girl to public knowledge, calling on Nigerians to help call the attention of relevant authorities to Uloma’s plight.
She also alleged that Police in the area are aware of the case but are helpless because the woman is the wife of a soldier who is a terror in the neighbourhood.
She wrote:
“The above picture is that of a house maid to a woman who resides at No 10 Andrew Alebe str. Off Okemoro str. Iyana isashi, Ojo L.G.A, Lagos.
“The little girl is malnourished and being beaten with knives from the madam. The said woman terrorizes the community claiming her husband is a soldier.
“Her case (the housemaid) is already known at the Isashi police division. The police are helpless and implore concerned citizens of the community to go viral with the situation in order to get the relevant govt. Agencies to step into the matter before the madam murders this innocent child whose parents are still alive and so very poor back in the village. Pls help spread.”
In the footage, Oluma looks malnourished with bruises on different parts of her body, and some of her teeth already removed.
She alleged that the woman, who she described as her aunty, inflicted the marks on her through corporal punishment and also claimed she is not enrolled in any school.
