Nine hospitalised after truck rams into seven vehicles on Imo bridge
An accident involving a truck and seven other vehicles on Njaba bridge along Owerri/Orlu Expressway, in Imo State, has left no fewer than nine persons hospitalised.
A member of the State House of Assembly, Uju Onwudiwe, who represents Njaba constituency revealed this while moving a motion on the floor of the House.
She called on Governor Emeka Ihedioha to repair the Njaba bridge as a matter of urgency.
The lawmaker said that she cried when she got to the scene of the incident.
She said that the accident could have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired.
She said,
“Mr Speaker and my colleagues, you need to see what happened at Njaba bridge. That accident would have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired.
“As a lawmaker and as a mother I am very concerned. It could have been any of us. As I speak, nine persons are still hospitalised and others have gone. I also urge that the cars be removed from the roads before hoodlums hijack them.”
While urging her colleagues to support the motion, she said that lives should not be politicised.
Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise) who spoke against the motion said that the road could not be given speedy attention because of paucity of funds.

He reminded the house that the legislature had declared a state of emergency on all roads in the state.
The Speaker, Collins Chiji, who presided the plenary said that nobody was opposing the motion.
The motion scaled through when it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker.
