Nollywood veteran Nobert Young features in `MTV Shuga’
Long-running pan African television drama series, MTV Shuga has announced veteran actor, Nobert Young and television host, Bolanle Olukanni as part of the cast for its highly anticipated sixth season.
The hit show focuses on the lives of young African millennials, as they navigate their way through their adolescent years.
According to information on the network’s official website, the new additions join returning cast members Timini Egbuson, Jemima Osunde, Olumide Oworu and Sharon Ezeamaka.
This season also features high profile Nollywood stars such as Funlola Aiofiyebi–Raimi, Rahama Sadau, Ladani Sulaiman, Ozzy Agu, Shawn Faqua and Yakubu Mohammed.
The show also reveals that upcoming talents, Uzoamaka Aniumoh & Philip Frances have been selected to join the cast.
MTV disclosed that winners from the online search will also be joining the cast.
They include Segun Dada, Moses Akerele and Chinaza Ruby Akabueze.
Other winners include Sharon Jato, Helena Nelson, Chimezie Imo, Tomiwa Tegbe and Nelson Ora.
The new season will be produced by award-winning writer/filmmaker Chris Ihidero, as well as Emma Uduma of SMAT Media.
Award-winning directors, Tolulope Ajayi, Ishaya Bako and Tope Oshin have also been revealed as the directors.
It has been broadcast in over 61 countries across the world, showing on 179 channels and reaching over 720 million people.
Fusing family planning, contraception, HIV prevention and sexual health education and highlighting the incidence of gender-based violence, the new MTV Shuga season centres around topics relevant to the modern African society, especially urban youth culture.
The show puts a spotlight on family planning and real issues that affect young people and the challenges they face from day to day, with a particular focus on adolescent girls.
MTV Shuga is the brainchild of MTV Staying Alive Foundation and is supported by MTV Base Africa and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The show is back to Nigeria for the next two seasons after the fifth season ‘Down South’ was filmed in South Africa. NAN
