A Federal High Court, sitting in Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday, convicted one Uke Philip Akhator for obtaining by fraudulent trick the sum of N150, 000.
Akhator, who was prosecuted by the Benin office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was said to have obtained the money from one Jakub Sani Mohammed by fraudulent tricks.
Akhator pleaded guilty to the offence while taking his plea.
The prosecution counsel, Larry Aso Peters, after hearing his plea, urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.
Responding, defence counsel, Padro Egharevba, pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercies, saying the defendant was a first time offender.
Egharevba also informed the court that defendant has become remorseful since he was arrested and has also promised to desist from such despicable act.
