The Ogun government has assured students of tertiary institutions in the state of a better learning environment, even as it says that the present administration is aware of their plights.

Mr. Azeez Adeyemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Matters, gave the assurance on Thursday during the flag-off of his campus tour.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the tour began with the D. S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State.
Adeyemi disclosed that he decided to embark on the tour on the directives of the governor, adding that he was mandated to visit all the tertiary institutions in the state and get full details of their true state.

The governor’s aide, while interacting with the students of the polytechnic, said it was regrettable that the previous administrations in the state had totally abandoned the education sector, especially the tertiary institutions.
He noted that the present administration inherited a failed education sector, thus necessitating the engagement of students and management of the institutions to get the true picture of the rot in those schools.

He expressed the state government’s commitment to returning the lost glory of education in the state, adding that the students remained a key factor in achieving this.

“The government will interface with the schools’ management to ensure that the challenges facing them are urgently resolved,” he said.

While urging the students to prepare themselves for the great task ahead, Adeyemi called for a better relationship between them and the government.

Earlier, Adegbenro Adedeji, the leader of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution, expressed disappointment over the state of infrastructure in the school.

He noted that the students had been subjected to an unconducive learning environment and urged the government to eradicate what he called exorbitant fees being charged by the management.

In his remarks, Prof. Olufemi Facade, the Rector of the institution, attributed most of the challenges facing the school to the paucity of funds.
