One dead in Lagos gas explosion

*Gas explosion kills one, injures two in Ogun* A gas explosion caused by a leaking cylinder has left one person dead and two others in critical condition on Monday morning along Folagbade road, in the Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State. Eyewitnesses said the two injured victims were immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, for medical attention. Tribune reported that the accident occurred after a gas cylinder carried by a passenger inside a tricycle was discovered to be leaking, while the tricycle was parked by a faulty vehicle having a radiator problem. To further worsen the situation, the bonnet of the faulty vehicle was said to have been opened when the heat emanating from it had contact with the gas. A source said: “The owner of the cylinder had just refilled it with gas and unknown to her, the cylinder was leaking. “The rider of the tricycle parked by the roadside for the woman to fix the leaking cylinder, but unfortunately, there was a car with radiator problem parked nearby. “The heat generated by the car triggered the explosion.” The Public Relations Officer of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident.



One person has been confirmed died in a gas explosion at Alafia bus stop beside Atlas, in Orile Iganmu axis of Lagos State.

35-year-old Ajibola Olaoye died in the explosion that left four others injured.

The Lagos State Emergency Agency confirmed Olaoye died while working on heavy-duty equipment.

Head of Public Affairs, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, said:

“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that there was an explosion from a gas cylinder used in welding a truck flatbed with an unknown registration number.

“The explosion was a result of gas leakage from the cylinder.

“However, an adult male (Ajibola Olaoye, 35yrs) lost his life at the scene of the incident and four adult males sustained injuries and had been rushed to the hospital before the arrival of emergency responders.

“The dead victim was bagged by the LRT and handed over to his family in the presence of Officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Amukoko Division.”
