Nigerians nabbed in India for drug peddling



Police in India have arrested a Nigerian resident of Delhi for drug peddling as an anti-narcotics team declares another Nigerian identified simply as Cheeku wanted.

Authorities said Cheeku became a suspect after he was named as supplier by four Indian nationals caught with 70g of the drug.

The main accused in the case, Ravi Verma, was said to be serving a 10-year jail term which was supposed to have ended on August 30, Rajinder Kumar added.

According to The Tribune, few weeks ago, the police in the Indian city of Bathinda arrested two Nigerians on drug related offences. One of them was in the country for studies while the other was there on business.

Before this, the CIA-1 wing of the police arrested one Amma Phoona Basil alias Ojho, a Nigerian, on April 18 in New Delhi as 500g heroin was recovered from him. Another suspect, Franck Chris Bensal, was also arrested on June 9 in the same city with 200g of heroin.

Police spokesperson, SSP Naveen Singla said, “We will share the details with the Delhi police and soon, a joint operation will be launched after the approval of senior officials.”

The police in India have arrested two Nigerians for allegedly smuggling two kilogrammes of heroin into the country.
