A zoo in Cairo, Eygpt has been caught in a bizarre attempt to pass off a donkey as zebra by painting it black and white.

Mahmoud A. Sarhani, a student, had visited International Garden municipal park in the Egyptian capital only to notice the odd-looking zebra.

Unlike actual zebras, the International Garden municipal park’s animal had unusually long ears and lacked the distinctive mane usually present on the African beasts.

A closer look revealed the zebra was actually a donkey, painted black and white to fool visitors.

Mahmoud took pictures which he shared on Facebook.

The zoo has denied that the donkey is a fake despite its suspiciously long ears and lack of distinctive mane.

The creature in the zoo was noticeably different from the real thing
Local media in the North African country covered the bizarre incident with a lot of local vets confirming the animal was a donkey.
