Members of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association on Tuesday took to the streets to protest the enforcement of the recent increase in the land use charge by the state’s government.
This was made known in the pictures shared on social media by some of the protesting members of the respected association.
The NBA members joined other civil society groups to make public their disapproval of the enforcement of the increase in the land use charge.
Recall that the re-enacted Lagos State Land Use Charge Law was greeted with public outcry because of the changes made to the existing provisions.
The re-enacted Land Use Charge (LUC) Law (2018), which replaced that of 2001, is the state government’s property tax. The law is a consolidation of ground rent, tenement rate as well as neighbourhood improvement charge. State-owned properties are however exempted from the Law.
