Oyo: Pregnant woman, 29, found dead in her room

Oyo State police are presently investigating the situations surrounding the death of a 29-year-old pregnant woman who was found dead in her room.

The deceased identified as Azeezat Dhikirulahi was a Postgraduate student of the University of Ibadan and was found dead in her room at Ijefun community in Oyo state.

The Students’ Union of the university while reacting to the death of  Azeezat in a statement said;

“During a visit to the deceased’s residence this afternoon by the Students’ Union leaders, it was confirmed by neighbors that she was hit with heavy stone on the head and no confirmation of any incidence of rape.

“However, investigations are on already by the Nigerian Police force, Oyo state command. The Commissioner of Police in the state also paid a visit to the venue of the incident.”
It was further disclosed that Azeezat was seven-months pregnant before her death.
According to reports, Azeezat who got married three years ago and was expecting a child recently returned to Oyo state from Kano state where she had gone to spend some time with her husband who resides there.

Her mother in law, Mrs Idiat Hamzat who discovered her body said she came to the house of the deceased to check on her but was shocked to see her in the pool of her own blood with a very big stone beside her. She immediately raised an alarm and the police were alerted.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Oyo state police command, SP Fadeyi Olugbenga, said an investigation has since commenced.

He said the body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue and the stone picked up as evidence.

Some co-tenants have been arrested for prompt investigation.
