Petty thief lynched in Calabar for stealing chicken
A suspected thief, simply identified as Victor, has been lynched in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River, for allegedly stealing a chicken.
It was gathered that the incident happened at about 5 am Tuesday around Abitu Avenue by Ekpo Edem Street in Calabar South.
It was alleged that the victim was a serial petty thief in the area was caught in the act and a mob quickly gathered old car tyres which were used to set him ablaze.
It was gathered that he usually stole car batteries and other items such as electricity generating set and chickens and people in the neighbourhood who knew about it, and the vigilante had caught him once and warned him, did not spare him this time.
Although details about the incident were sketchy as of the time of this report, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
According to her,
“I am aware but I have not been briefed about what happened. As at the time they called me that somebody was lynched, the DPO was going there. He has not briefed me about what really happened. So I am waiting for his report.”
