‘Placing Tinubu, Awolowo under same microscope for analysis an attempt at painting picture in the clouds’
Over the years there has been a lot of debate among politically inclined Nigerians mostly from the South west over the achievements and greatness of former Premier of old Western region late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
While those who are of the opinion that Awolowo is not in the class of Tinubu always argue that comparing the two politicians is not a subject for debate, some believe Tinubu is the modern day ‘Awolowo’ based on his antecedents, and some believe Tinubu has surpassed the late Awolowo acclaimed as the leader of Yoruba politics.
Awolowo is highly revered and acclaimed by the Yoruba people and Nigerians as the model of good democratic governance, at some point, politicians in the southwest seek political acceptability by claiming to be ardent followers of Awolowo, while some find it degrading when they are tagged as non-followers of Awolowo and his apostates. Such politicians adopted Awolowo’s type of spectacles and hi round cap as their dress pattern to be described as disciples of the late politician.
During his life time, Awolowo was one of the figures who led the agitation for the independence of Nigeria from the British colonialists. Post-independence, as a Premier of Old Western region, he recorded a lot of achievements in the area of education, economy and was a political figure to reckon with in national politics
Tinubu is a former Senator who governed Lagos between 1999 and 2007 and had since stamped his name on the wall of Nigeria’s national politics. He is credited to have contributed immensely to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the southwest and the nation.
His acclaimed political intelligence is believed to have helped the APC to wrestle power from the PDP in 2015 and also gave the APC full control of the southwest before the 2019 elections.
Such debates are not new among fans and admirers of public figures, fans of Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are always at loggerheads over who is greater and better between the two multiple award winning footballers.
The Awolowo/Tinubu supremacy contest debate was brought to the fore again on Thursday by Tinubu’s admirers as the former Lagos governor celebrated his 67th birthday.
However, a Nigerian from the northern part of the nation who found the comparison embarrassing has vent his anger against admirers of the former Lagos governor who attempt to rate him above Awolowo.
The Fulani man expressed his displeasure via his Twitter handle @YoungOtutu and said placing Tinubu and Awolowo under same microscope for analysis is an overreaching attempt at painting a picture in the clouds.
He wrote:
“I felt so sad yesterday, wen on my TimeLine I saw APC zombies rating TINUBU over AWOLOWO Sad Wat are his achievements? Lagos? Worst city to live in the world in 2018— (Economist Intelligence Unit )? Tinubu is after his Personal Agenda Awolowo was after the Yorubas Agenda.

“Tinubu is great, fine But he is no better than Awolowo. He is never a Machiavelli How can you rate Personal Interest over Interest of the Masses? How?!!”

Whoever puts Tinubu neat Awolowo should be checked out in a mental hospital. That tout is not worthy of Awo’s presence not to mention even polishing Awo’s shoes. A thief and a murderer.

Awolowo is a leader, Tinubu is no where compare to him, please don’t bring these two together.

What UPN did are still visible till date. Do we have an Ajasin today? Current thieves came to steal, kill & destroy. £4 million was the annual budget Awo used to build the 1st TV station, 1st stadium & Cocoa house that was completed in 1965 from cocoa! Never missed salaries!

So many Yoruba ignoramuses!
Tinubu fell-out with many leaders of thoughts bcoz of his selfishness. He had wanted VP if he wasn’t rejected in 2015
A true leader doesn’t chose himself, he waits to be chosen by the people. Who chose Tinubu as Yoruba leader?
