The Ekiti State Police Command have arrested four men in connection with the alleged stealing of a pair of pants belonging to a grandmother in the Olorunsogo area of Basiri, Ado Ekiti.

Modupe Adekoya, who had washed her underwear and spread them to dry on her balcony around 3am on Tuesday, raised the alarm when she could not find the pair of pants at daybreak.

Following an investigation, one Friday, 21, was suspected to be responsible for the disappearance of the pants and the case was reported at the Irewolede Police Station, which sent some of its personnel to arrest him.

A police source said on Wednesday that the suspect confessed to the crime and the alleged involvement of three others, whom he reportedly said wanted to buy the pants for N2,000.

The police subsequently arrested the three other suspects.

“Friday and the three others arrested in connection with the crime were later transferred to the New Iyin Police Station on Bank Road, Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday,” the police source explained.

On her part, Adekoya said,

“I know Friday very well as he usually comes to assist me with some domestic chores. To appreciate him, I used to serve him meals, but I never thought he could do this to me.

“I had washed my pants and hung two pairs to dry in the corridor of my house around 3am on June 11. But when I went to remove them the following morning, I found out that one was missing, then I raised the alarm.

“After series of investigation, a relative who suspected Friday, called him and urged him to confess, promising not to be angry with him. He did eventually confess to stealing the underwear and that was when we invited the police to arrest him.

“After the arrest, he took the police to the house of three men, claiming one of them had asked him to bring the underwear and promised to give him N2,000.”
