Police arrest murder suspect in Niger

The Police in Niger have arrested a 23 years old man over the murder of one Ayuba Ibrahim,19, of Boyi village in Gurara Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Habibu Suleiman, was said to be one of the seven armed robbers who, on 2 May 2020, invaded Boyi community in Gurara, robbed residents of their valuables and shot one Ibrahim dead.

The police, on Monday, said Suleiman of Dawaki town hall area Suleja, was trailed and arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Gawu-Babangida Division.

According to the police, the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned other six of his accomplices who are now at large.

He promised to take the operatives to the houses of his members in Tafa and Kubwa Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja so that they will be arrested.

Further checks revealed that the suspect and his members robbed one Prophet Samuel Omojuni Kandi, 45, of his Samsung, Tecno A7 handsets valued N61,000, ATM card and a sum of N34,000 cash.

“I never knew that police will get at me after killing the victim. I didn’t know that the victim will die of the gunshot honestly,” the suspects said.

Adding,

“It wasn’t my intention to kill him I thought he will only sustain injury, am ruined my life is finished.”

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime.

Abiodun said the police were trailing the fleeing suspects, adding that the matter would be charged to court after investigation.
