I am not competent to speak on issues regarding Magu, says police spokesman

Published

Police spokesman Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), said he was not competent to speak on issues concerning Magu since he was neither the spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), nor that of the Presidential Investigative Committee (PIC).

“I am not competent to speak on issues touching on the Acting Chairman of EFCC. I am neither the spokesman of EFCC nor an official panel,” he said.

However, police sources told The Nation that it was untrue that the Inspector-General (IG), Mohammed Adamu, was the one detaining Magu since the ongoing probe was being carried out by the Police.

A source added that the police can only act in the matter when invited to do so either through a petition or a complaint, adding that it was mere speculation for anyone to say the IG was detaining the embattled acting EFCC chair.

The sources said there were procedures to commence internal disciplinary action against any erring officer, adding that Magu’s case will not be different.
