Police confirm man shot dead by cultists in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a man yet to be identified and another with a gunshot wound by suspected cultists in Owhase community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The state police public relations officer PPRO Onome Onovwakpoyeya who confirmed the incident said suspected cultists shots two persons yesterday in Udu.
It was gathered that the incident occurred about 9:55 am, leaving residents in fear and a state of panic.
The incident occurred on Saturday, as residents in the area could not identify the duo.
Sources said that:
“The victims were tied with ropes by their killers, who sped away in an unknown vehicle after shooting the victims.
“The vehicle headed towards Enerhen Junction, there were three persons ‘(male)’ in the vehicle, but i cont tell the type of vehicle they drove in.
“One of the victims died at the spot, while the other in his late 20s, is currently battling for his life at an undisclosed hospital.
“The corpse have been evacuated by the relevant authority.”
Residents at the scene of the incident have reportedly vacated their homes for fear of being arrested and questioned by security operatives over the development..
When contacted for comments, the State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident on Sunday afternoon.
Saying, “Yes, it is true. Gunmen suspected to be cultists shot two persons in Udu yesterday.”
However, the vice-chairman of Udu council, Hon. Justice Iyasere also confirmed the incident.
He said:
“What I just gathered is that it is a cult-related incident. That those two guys were shot.
“One died instantly and the other one is in a critical condition. Not that they were dumped there. The dead body is no longer there. It has been evacuated.”
