The apex court had on Monday, January 13, suspended hearing on the matter at the instance of the chief justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, over the inability of Police operatives to control the crowd on Monday.

Following the expected hearing of the governorship appeals from six states across Nigeria before the Supreme Court in Abuja, the Nigerian Police has deployed security dogs to the court premises.

The dogs are expected to help security operatives control the crowd present at the hearing of six governorship election applications.

The chief justice of Nigeria had on Monday, January 13, directed counsels representing all the parties involved in the cases not to appear with more than five lawyers.

The dogs, Channels Television reports were being used by the Police to control the dense crowd within the premises of the apex court.

The apex court will be hearing the election appeals filed by some governorship candidates in Sokoto, Imo, Kano, Benue, Bauchi, and Plateau states.

The judge also said that one of the members of the seven-man panel who were to preside over the cases was ill.
