Police hunt for kidnappers who attempted to hijack commercial bus in Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command is on the trail of some suspected kidnappers who attempted to hijack an 18-seater commercial bus on the Okehi/Igbdo Road, Etche Local Government Area of the state.
WuzupNigeria had earlier reported that policemen in the state foiled the attack on the bus and killed three of the alleged kidnappers in a gun exchange on Sunday.
The police spokesman in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, in a statement, said some of the criminals fled with gunshot wounds, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
“The CP has launched a serious manhunt for other members of the gang who fled. We appeal to the public to report anybody with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station,” the statement read.
“The Road has been free since yesterday and there has been increased police presence on that axis to give motorists and other road users a renewed sense of safety and security.
“We want to assure the residents of the area and motorists that we are doing everything to protect them.”
The State police image maker further said the command would not rest on its laurels until criminal elements are flushed out of Rivers.
