Four notorious robbery suspects have been shot dead by men of the Anti-Crime Patrol Squad attached to the Sapele Area Command of the Delta State Police Command.

The four suspects, who had been on the wanted list of the police, were killed during an exchange of gunfire on Wednesday at a popular brothel in Sapele.

A police source, who confirmed the killing claimed that the suspects, who were led by one Ahmed, had been responsible for a series of robberies in Sapele and environs.

“The suspects had returned to the town last night after fleeing for months after some robbery attacks. Acting on citizens’ information, our men rushed to a hotel on Adeola Road in Sapele, where they were said to be hiding.

“Men of a vigilance group in Sapele, who are working with the police, cordoned off the hotel premises. On sighting the police, the robbers opened fire on us (the police) first and in the ensuing gun battle, three of them were shot dead, while one, who escaped with gunshot injuries, was later caught. He confessed that three of them came from Agbarho, in the Ughelli North council area of the state. The suspect later died,” the source added.
