A massive manhunt has begun for the gunmen who shot dead a motorcyclist in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The gunmen after shooting Bernard James allegedly carted away his motorcycle.
The incident occurred at the Borokini Area of Aga in the Ikorodu metropolis.
WuzupNigeria gathered that when the gunmen accosted Bernard, who was riding his bike to an unknown destination, and tried dispossessing him of it he struggled with them.
Angered by this, one of the assailants shot him in the head. Bernard died on the spot and during a visit to the scene of the incident on Saturday, our correspondent saw the victim’s blood-covered with sand in front of No. 42 Borokini Street.
According to a resident, the deceased was shot twice. She added that when the gunmen attacked Bernard around 8.30 pm, residents scampered for safety.
“I was in the kitchen when I heard the first gunshot; shortly after, I heard the second gunshot and when I peeped outside, I saw people running. Later on, some other residents and I came outside, because where the incident happened was a building away from where I live, and we saw the corpse in a pool of blood,” The quoted the resident, identified as Abigail as saying.
“The men took away Bernard’s motorcycle. A lot of people have been speculating on why he was killed, but all I know is that I heard gunshots and when I came outside, I saw the corpse on the ground.”
A shop owner in the area, Fola Arowosola, said residents speculated that Bernard was killed by cultists, adding that a few weeks back, suspected cultists invaded the area and shot dead a resident and cut off his hand.
“I closed early but my neighbours were the ones who informed me about the incident and how the man was killed. The information I gathered from people was that he was killed because of his motorcycle, while others said they suspected that Bernard might be a cultist and that his rivals pursued him to where he was killed.
“A few months back, a suspected cultist was shot dead on this same Borokini Street. I was around that day when motorcyclists were moving in the direction of where the man was killed. I was surprised when I heard that those motorcyclists had killed someone and chopped off his hand and fled with it.”
Bernard’s elder brother, Christian, condemned the speculation that his brother was a cultist, adding that he had informed their parents of his demise, but the burial arrangement would commence after the lifting of the interstate travel ban.
“My brother was not a cultist; he was a motorcyclist. When he did not return home from work, his family started looking for him and heard that a motorcyclist was killed at Aga. We went there and confirmed that he was the one, who was killed.
“So, we went to the Igbogbo Police Station, where our identities were confirmed and the policemen told us that his corpse had been deposited in the mortuary. I identified his corpse and informed our parents; we are waiting for the interstate lockdown to be lifted so that we can proceed with the burial arrangements.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said after Bernard was killed, his identification card, Automated Teller Machine card and N650 were recovered at the scene of the incident, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the perpetrators of the crime.
“On May 5, 2020, around 9.15pm, we received information that a man was shot by unknown persons and he was lying down in the Borokini area of Aga, in Ikorodu. Our men were mobilised to the scene of the crime and on getting there, we found a corpse in a pool of his blood.
“He was searched and a Lagos State Government tricycle/bike rider identification card bearing Bernard James, a GTBank ATM card bearing the same name and N650 were found on him. Marks of violence were also observed on the corpse, which was evacuated to the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary. Investigation is ongoing; we have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.”

Four men drug, gang-rape 13-year-old girl in Kaduna, dump her unconscious under a car
The sexual abuse of women and girls seem to continue unabated as a 13-year-old girl has been reportedly gang-raped in Kaduna State by four men.
The recent rape incident comes hours after there were reports that a 12-year-old girl was gang-raped by four masked men in Lekki Area of Lagos State.
In the Kaduna incident, WuzupNigeria gathered that the girl was drugged, gang-raped by the four men who, later, dumped her unconscious underneath a parked vehicle near her house.
According to the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, the victim was taken by suspects on a motorcycle that was “driven by an unsuspecting biker and dumped underneath a parked car close to her house.”
The Ministry stated on its twitter handle on Thursday that after hours of frantic search, the victim was found by a relative and immediately taken to the hospital.
It said the four rapists and one collaborator have since been arrested and the case moved from the Police Division to the State Criminal Investigative Department.
“After investigation, the suspects will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction,” it said.
It stated that while the ongoing conversation “on #SayNoToRapists continues, the monstrous practitioners have not shown signs of slowing down.”
The case of rape has recently gathered momentum following several cases of rape in social media.
Only recently, a 100 level student of the University of Benin, Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, was raped to death in a church.
WuzupNigeria further reports that a 12-year-old girl is said to be experiencing trauma after she was allegedly gang-raped by four masked men at her residence in Abijo area of Ajah, Lagos State.
She was said to have been raped while playing alone in the compound around 2 pm on Thursday.
The victim, a secondary school pupil, was left bleeding from injuries she sustained in her private parts.
Abba-Ukpo crisis: Police, community clash over alleged kidnap of billionaire
There is tension in Abba Community, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, as members of the community and the Nigerian Police Force are locked in a fierce argument over the alleged kidnap of billionaire businessman, Chief Pius Nweke on Friday.
While the community strongly stated that Nweke was kidnapped on his way to office by suspected policemen who placed a gun in his hand, the Police said the billionaire businessman was arrested for being in possession of illegal firearms and could be transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja.
In a statement on Friday, the President General of the Community, Engr, BC Anaekwe, said, Nweke was abducted on his way to his office by some people suspected to be policemen at about 12 noon.
According to him, not only that he was abducted, he was handcuffed like a common criminal, while a gun was placed on his hand.
“As at the time of this release, the whereabouts of Chief Nweke is still unknown. It will be recalled the Abba community has been in dispute over ownership of a large expanse of .land commonly called “Agu-Abba” with her neighbouring Ukpo community for which the Nigerian police was enlisted against the Abba community,” the statement read.
When contacted, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang and the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Haruna, did not pick calls to their mobile lines.
But, one of the senior Police officers in the state, who pleaded anonymity, said nobody kidnapped the said chief, rather, that he was arrested for illegal possession of firearms.
He said Chief Pius Nweke was in possession of a pistol gun without a license which, according to him, was a criminal offence that carried a jail term of not less than three years
The senior officer said it is only the President that could authorise for such under the constitution of the land
The matter could be transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja.
