Police nab suspected fake army captain in Akwa Ibom

A fake army captain has been arrested by the police in Akwa Ibom State.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the fake soldier, Kinsley Nelson, was nabbed by SARS operatives on the 2nd of February,2020 along with two others suspects, Solomon Essien and Stephen Joseph, both residents of Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area of the state

The Akwa Ibom State Command’s Public Relations Officer, N’nudam Frederick, in a statement on Friday, said a search party conducted by the operatives led to the recovery of three vehicles and an army uniform with the insignia of a Captain.

“The Operatives of SARS on 2nd February 2020 at about 11:30 pm swung into action and arrested one Kingsley Nelson ‘m’ of Abak Local Government Area, a fake army captain and two other members of his syndicate, Solomon Etim Essien and Stephen Joseph both of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, who specialize in snatching of vehicles and have been on the sensitive radar of the Command.

“The arrest culminated in the recovery of one Toyota Corolla car with registration number EG 710 EKY, one Toyota Carina car with registration number TTU 331 SC and one Honda CRV with registration number RSH 189 EKY.

“Search conducted at suspect’s residence led to the recovery of an army uniform with the insignia of a captain”.

The police spokesman said the command has begun investigations to unravel the truth about the suspects. He said the Anti-Child Theft Unit, created by the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, on assumption of office has recorded remarkable breakthroughs.

According to him a combined team of Itu Division and Anti-Child Theft intercepted an 18-seater Jimbei Hiace bus with Reg. No. YEN 709 XA, conveying six underage children on the 5th of January, 2020.

He said during investigation two suspected traffickers, one Esther Akpan 42 and Solomon Akpan 21 years confessed that they were taking the victims from Calabar to Ondo State for child labour.

He said the Command has transferred all the victims to the Ministry of Women Affairs for custody, while the suspected traffickers have been charged to court.

The Command’s spokesman further stated that operatives of Mbo Division within the period under review arrested one Peace Bassey Okon ‘on the 7th of January 2020 for allegedly abducting one Joy Ekpeima .and Peace Effiong aged 16yrs and 17 respectively in November, 2019 to her sister’s house in Ogun State

He said the suspect denied them access to contact their parents and subjected them to forced labour and exploitation adding that the suspect has admitted sending the victims to her sister without their parents’ consent.

He said,

“The suspect took advantage of the victims being dropped out of school occasioned by inability of their parents to pay their school fees and abducted them for forced labour.

“The Operatives proceeded to Ogun State and arrested the suspect’s sister, one Sandra Bassey ‘ who took custody of the victims. Suspects have been charged to court”
