Police react to report of mechanic allegedly tortured to death by operatives in Rivers
The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the viral report of a mechanic allegedly tortured to death by some of its operatives in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Nigeria’s social media community was thrown into outrage on Friday morning when the story of a mechanic Chima Ikwunado emerged on the blogosphere.
He was said to have been tortured to death by police officers after framing him and four of his apprentices for robbery.
Reacting to the outrage that has greeted the viral story, the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) said action has been taken on the case since the police authorities were alerted about the incident last week.
Tweeting via its handle @PoliceNG_CRU, the unit wrote:
Good morning, action was taken on this case last week and the officers concerned are on their way to interview O/C CRU Abuja.

The head of the Police CRU, ACP Markus Ishaku also confirmed that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police has been directed to hand over the officers involved in the case to the police authorities.
Ishaku tweeted:
This matter is with @PoliceNG_CRU already. CP Rivers will hand them over to the office for further action, pls.
