Police save man who raped deaf-mute girl from jungle justice
One Nurudeen Akintoye has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command after he was nearly lynched by a mob for allegedly raping an 18-year-old deaf and mute girl.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the incident occurred on June 7, 2017 around 9.45 pm when Akintoye, a 20-year-old resident of Ajura town, Obafemi Owode LGA, lured his 18-year-old victim into a bush and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
The sight of the deaf-mute girl, whose parents claimed was a virgin before the incident, bleeding profusely from her private part irked the people of the area and they were about taking laws into their hands before the police intervened and arrested the suspect.
The victim was taken to General Hospital in Owode Egba for immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, warned members of the public to desist from applying jungle justice on anybody suspected of committing any crime emphasising “all suspects are presumed to be innocent until a court of competent jurisdiction states otherwise.”
