Published

Following the recent worldwide reports of exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones, the Nigerian office of the phone makers have warned owners to switch off and stop using the device.

Samsung said although the device has not been officially released in Nigeria, users in the country should return the phone to authorized center for assistance.

“Customers are advised to return their Galaxy Note7 to Samsung Authorized Service Centres and be guided with available options. Those who have already returned their Galaxy Note7 will also be contacted from Samsung for their options,” one of Samsung’s top officials in Nigeria, Emmanouil Revmatas said in a press release.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to customers and partners who have trusted and waited for the Galaxy Note7.”

Some users of the device around the world have complained that the phones have been behaving like little bombs, exploding many times while charging.

Many airlines have also banned the device from been carried in their flights.

Samsung announced on October 11 that it has permanently stopped production and sales of the device globally.

Bloomberg reported at the weekend that carrying the smartphones on flights in the US will now attract confiscation and fines under an emergency U.S. order that significantly expands restrictions on the devices linked to almost 100 incidents of overheating and fires. About 1.9 million Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices were sold in the US.
