Pulev vows to beat Anthony Joshua ‘brutally’

Pulev vows to beat Anthony Joshua 'brutally'

Kubrat Pulev has labelled Anthony Joshua as ‘afraid’  and promised to destroy his hopes of an undisputed title fight with Tyson Fury.

Mandatory challenger, Pulev, is contracted to be Joshua’s next opponent in an IBF, WBA, and WBO heavyweight title defence, while Deontay Wilder has the right to enforce a third WBC title fight against Fury.

Overseas territories including Saudi Arabia have enquired about hosting a future undisputed title fight between Joshua and Fury, but Pulev insists he will bring those plans crashing down…

Pulev told Sky Sports: I’m way more precise than him as well as a much smarter boxer. And I will beat him. Brutally.”

Pulev said Joshua wants home advantage for the fight “because he’s afraid. I don’t see any other reason.

“Why should it be in London? Why the fight can’t take place in any other place? You answer this!

We offered various destinations – from Istanbul to Las Vegas, New York or Saudi Arabia. And then I got the reply that Joshua would come up against me only in London. Otherwise, there would be no fight at all. And of course, I agreed to this condition.

“I’m not concerned about the place. For example, I never asked for the fight to be in Sofia. From day one I wanted it to take place at a neutral venue, as this would be fair to both sides.”

Pulev said there is no such thing as an ideal location for a true fighter, adding, that he can fight everywhere because he is not worried about anything.

“Picking a certain destination is for cowards.

“I can think of at least two others who fit this description and who have refused to come to Sofia to face me – Dillian Whyte and Jarrell Miller.

Pulev said Joshua cannot fight Fury now because he has already signed a contract to fight with him.

He added: “Besides, in this same contract there are clauses featuring some serious compensations [if the fight doesn’t happen]. In the meantime, Fury has a contract for a third fight with Deontay Wilder. Neither I nor Wilder will give up on these fights.”

On promoter, Bob Arum’s prediction of a knock out win for Pulev, the Bulgarian said, “Bob is an amazing guy. He’s so experienced, he has seen so many things in the world of boxing, he knows so much. He’s a guy you can never mislead.

In this case, he’s not wrong either and I’m full of ambition to prove him right and meet his expectations in the best way possible.”

Earlier, the Corps members team leader, Vincent Chidera, said the masks were produced in line with global best practice.

According to him, the production was borne out of the need to provide affordable masks for FCT residents in line with the guidelines laid by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Jose Mourinho takes a swipe at Arsenal after the club made a social media post mocking his team

Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho, has taken a swipe at Arsenal after the club’s Twitter account mocked Tottenham following their loss to Sheffield United this weekend.

Following Spurs’ recent 3-1 loss against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Arsenal posted that they had travelled to the same venue last month and claimed a 2-1 win in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Arsenal shared a now-deleted post on Facebook with the caption: “It’s not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.”

Mourinho has now reacted after he was told about the post

“I think if they were top of the league or fighting for top four in a really good moment they wouldn’t enjoy the problems of others. You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble,” Mourinho said on Monday.

“In the end it says more about them. They don’t have much to celebrate, they have to get every opportunity to do it. They are in a very similar situation to us in the table.

“I don’t like to connect the club with some post or tweet. Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am right, but the person that did it probably did it by themselves. I don’t believe it was [Mikel] Arteta that posted, I don’t believe it was [Granit] Xhaka or another captain that did it.

“It was probably some guy that was at home for three months working from home. No problem at home, but we will be waiting for them.

Spurs have finished above the Gunners for the past three seasons and but Mourinho says the club should be aiming higher.

“To be the champion of north London means nothing for me because I think you have to be much bigger than that and have much more ambitions than that,” Mourinho said.

“But I always look to the rivals of my clubs with different eyes. As you know I have been in so many big clubs with so many special rivals so I don’t hide that Arsenal in this moment is a very special rival.

“Yes I would like to finish in a better position in the table than them. But again I want my team to be bigger than that, I want my club to feel bigger than that.”

Arsenal currently sit seventh in the Premier League, four points clear of Tottenham, who do have a game in hand.

To win the fifth league title with Sporting, Quadri was full of appreciation to the team that he admitted has helped his career to glow.

From the 18 league matches played this season, Sporting were unbeaten dropping only five sets in all their matches to attain 70 points which are 22 more than second-placed GD Toledos.

A delighted Aruna who will be moving to Germany next season described Portugal as a home away from home.

“After ten years in Portugal, it was time to leave for a championship with another level. I was very happy here, Portugal for me is almost the same as Nigeria and I will continue to live in Portugal because I have a family here. I will train a few times at Sporting for the year,” he said.

For the final match against his former club, he said: “It was a very difficult game particularly against my former team and mate, Diogo Silva, who is a player with a lot of talent. We played together for four years and it is always difficult to play against him.”

His compatriot, Bode Abiodun admits that it was a difficult match having returned to the game after several weeks of inactivity.

Abiodun said: “It was a very difficult game, but I am very satisfied with the victory and with another title, which was the main objective of the season.”

Portuguese international, Diogo Carvalho also spoke about the tie saying, “We managed to win another title for Sporting, which was our goal. The match with Énio was very tactical because we know each other well, we played together for six years in Spain, so we know each other’s game.”
