Barely three days after, Senate president Bukola Saraki recommended the sale of national assets to raise funds, several others have taken sides o the issue.

National assets is the total value in terms of money, of the capital, goods and services, including net foreign balance and tangible assets, owned by a nation at a particular period of time. It could include national monuments – National theatre, national parks, Airports, Sea ports, Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), timber, sub-soil assets and everything you can think of belonging to the government.

While the Federal Government, governors and big business moguls (like billionaire investor, Aliko Dangote)  in the country are in support of the sale of these assets, the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress and activists such as Femi Falana(SAN) and Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education are in opposition.

But members of the National assembly are obviously divided on whether to sell or not to sell.

For example, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu stands in opposition of the sale. He made his stance known on Thursday, barely 24-hours after his boss first made the suggestion at the resumed sitting of the Senate. He suggested that the president should reshuffle his cabinet instead because the right people are not in the right positions.

Giving examples, he said, “The President needs to look at his cabinet. He has to put square pegs in square holes. Your Excellency, distinguished colleagues, Udo Udoma is my friend, an accomplished lawyer for that matter, but in fairness to him, I believe he can do better in another ministry especially like trade and investment but certainly not budget and planning.”

Senator Shehu Sani was more direct in his opposition of the sale.

He said, “The call for the sale of our National assets and investment is condemnable. The proponents are economic predators and parasites who wants to profit from the recession.Nigerians must resist and rise up against this heists and roguery.”

So on whose side are you? Sell or not to sell? lets hear your voice.
