Residents troop to Lagos street to scoop diesel from fallen tanker [Video]
Some residents of Victoria Island in Lagos on Friday morning trooped out with kegs to scoop diesel from a fallen tanker along the Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue.
The truck with registration number KRD280XN was said to have lost a tyre while in motion around 5 am which caused a flip through the highway median.
It was gathered that the two compartments of 11,000 litres each detached from the truck and fell on the ground spilling their contents.
Shortly after the tanker tumbled, some residents took to the scene with jerrycans to scoop the diesel flowing inside drainage and on the road.
In a video of the incident posted on social media, some of the residents including women were seen running around with kegs and buckets.
It was gathered that the police chased the residents away and seized some of the jerrycans when they arrived at the scene of the accident, averting what would have turned out to be another disaster on the busy road.
Popular Nollywood actress Kate Hanshaw also shared the video as she condemned the residents for endangering their lives.
She tweeted via her verified Twitter handle @HenshawKate:
“See them. Not caring about their lives. Fetching diesel from the tanker accident. We never learn.”
It was gathered that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), federal and state Fire Services, paramedics and policemen cordoned off the area afterward, diverting traffic to other routes.
