Rwanda supports DR Congo’s crackdown against Hutu rebels

Rwanda said it supports the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s military action against Hutu rebels operating in the border region between the two countries.

The rebels members had fled into neighbouring Dr Congo after the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels operate in North Kivu and South Kivu provinces in eastern DR Congo.

Rwanda’s minister for east Africa, Olivier Nduhungirehe says the group will be defeated by the Congolese army.

“Thanks to the Congolese army, the days of the FDLR are numbered,” he tweeted.

The FDLR on Sunday accused Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his Congolese counterpart Félix Tshisekedi of “concluding a pact… to massacre Rwandan refugees in the east of DRC.”
