SARS disarmed

A video of some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force being disarmed by their superior over alleged illegal activities is presently making the round on social media.

Popular activist Harrison Gwamnishu of Behind Bars Initiative (BBI) shared the footage on social media.

He said some residents called him to raise an alarm over the illegal activities of the officers in their area which prompted him to call the Delta State Commissioner of Police.

Gwamnishu said the incident happened in Asaba the Delta state capital.

He wrote:

“Moment SARS officers of @PoliceNG who specializes in breaking and entry were disarmed today in Asaba. I received a distress call from residents of Bonsaac GRA Asaba. They complained bitterly how police officers continued to break into their home.”

In response to the residents’ distress call, Gwamnishu said he called the Commissioner who directed a team to go to the area to investigate the allegation.

“I quickly called the attention of the Commissioner of Police and he sent a team to investigate. #FactCheck #ComplaintVerified They were caught in the act and disarmed,” the activist said.

Recall that there have been several reports of SARS operatives breaking into the homes of residents over claims that the occupants are internet fraudsters ‘Yahoo Boys’.
