Senate summons AGF over forgery allegation

The Senate on Tuesday summoned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to appear before it over alleged forgery of Senate standing rules or risk arrest.

The resolution followed a report by Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, David Umaru, who informed lawmakers that presidential aide, Ita Enang, had appealed for more time for Malami to appear before the Senate to explain his role on the matter.

Senate president Bukola Saraki however warned that Senate will not hesitate to issue a bench warrant within one week if the AGF fails to respond to invitations.

“As a Senate, we are always in the progress of development. We will ensure that he comes this time otherwise we will have no choice than to follow the constitution.

“The committee will report back to us before the end of the week,” he said.

The Senate had on June 21 invited the Attorney-General to appear before its committee on Judiciary over a forgery case instituted against its members.

However, the AGF who was absent was represented by Okoi Obono-Obla, Special Assistant to President Buhari on Prosecution.

Although the committee refused to hear the representative, Obono-Obla in an interview outside the hearing room, said that “the Senate had no right to invite the AGF” and that the AGF was not answerable to the Senate” which the Presidency later apologized for.

Aboderin served as the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Network failure leaves Buhari embarrassed at UN event (Photos)

Poor network connection on Thursday prevented Nigeria’s President, Maj.Gen. (Retd.) Muhammadu Buhari, from addressing a United Nations virtual meeting.

Themed on finance for development, the meeting was convened by at the instance of the UN Secretary General, António Guterres.

Buhari’s connection from Abuja had hitches right from the start as he went on and off for seconds before the video connection went off completely, a report by PUNCH said.

He briefly highlighted the impact of COVID -19 on African countries and how the situation was making it difficult for Nigeria to fund the 2020 budget before he was disconnected by poor network connection completely.

Makinde to roll out first set of Digitized CofOs to mark one year in office

NLC, TUC laud Makinde on prompt payment of salaries

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde will on Monday, June 1st 2020 distribute the first set of digitized Certificate of Occupancy to successful applicants under the Oyo State Home Owners Charter (OYHOC) scheme.

This land title document Made Easy Initiative is in line with the Engineer Seyi Makinde led administration’s promise to speed up the process of getting land title documents at an affordable cost and also within 60 days.

These title documents include Certificate of Occupancy, Deed of Assignment, Deed of Sublease and Deed of Mortgage Consents.

A release issued by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Barrister Abiodun Abdu-Raheem said the event which will take place at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan is part of activities commemorating the One year in office of the present administration.

He further explained that the programme which will hold at 12.00 noon would be done with strict adherence to COVID 19 safety measures which will, therefore, limit the number of applicants that will be invited for the symbolic presentation.

Barrister Abdu-Raheem also called on eligible property owners without title or approved documents to take advantage of the window of opportunity.

He encouraged people with outstanding applications to visit Room 4 of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan to find out the status of their applications with a view to ensuring they get their title document as this administration is determined to provide title documents within 60 days of application.
